The Doolittle Raid on Tokyo; B-25 Mitchell bombers launched from their carriers and flew to Japan. There, they struck at the homeland of the Japanese Imperial Empire. It was a raid that inspired headlines around the world and boosted the morale of every USA citizen. These brave men, some of whom gave their lives for this mission, will forever be remembered as heroes. Eight Doolittle Raider survivors have signed this print...Signed by the artist : Robert Bailey and 2nd Lieutenant Richard E. Cole served as co-pilot to General Doolittle on the Tokyo raid, in Crew #1. After the raid, he continued to serve in the C.B.I and other areas through WWII. Dick continued his Air Force service until 1967, when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was rated as a Command Pilot and awarded many decorations, including DFC with two Oak Leaf Clusters...Captain David M. Jones was the pilot of Crew #5, and was one of five ranking pilots on the Tokyo Raid. Following the mission, he bailed out over China, where friendly Chinese assisted him and his crew to safety. Later in the war, he was shot down over North Africa, and spent 30 months in a German prison camp. After a variety of post-war commands, General Jones was assigned in 1964 as Deputy Associate Administrator for manned space flight at NASA Headquarters, and later served as Department of Defence Manager for manned space flight support operations. General Jones retired from the Air Force in 1973, with many decorations...2nd Lieutenant Richard A. Knobloch was co-pilot of Crew #13 on the Tokyo Raid. He afterwards remained in the C.B.I until the end of 1943. After WWII he remained in the service, was a Command Pilot, and held many responsible positions until his retirement in 1970 as a Brigadier General. His awards were many, including the DFC with Oak Leaf...2nd Lieutenant James Herbert Macia Jr. was the Navigator/Bombardier on Crew #14, and served in many important positions throughout his long career. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 as a Colonel. His many awards include the Legion of Merit, Silver Star, and DFC with Oak Leaf Cluster...Sergeant Joseph W. Manske was a Sergeant, Engineer/Gunner on Crew #5 with Captain Jones as his pilot. Joe was the first to bail out of his aircraft over China, after leaving Japan. He made his way back to friendly Chinese forces, and went on to fly some of the first B-25 missions in the China-Burma-India theatre. Upon returning to the States, he attended Officer Training School and was commissioned in 1942. Colonel Manske worked his way up through the ranks in the Logistics field. He retired in 1973 after serving 32 years in the military. His many awards include the DFC...2nd Lieutenant Harry C. McCool was the Navigator on Crew #4 on the Tokyo Raid. He was a career officer, and retired in 1966 as at Lt. Colonel. He had a varied career with the Air Force, then went to work in civil service for the Navy in Hawaii, and retired from that position in 1980. Among his many decorations is the DFC and Purple Heart, with one Oak Leaf Cluster...2nd Lieutenant Charles John Ozuk was the Navigator on Crew #3 during the Tokyo Raid. He then served in North Africa until April 1945, when he retired from the Air Force as a Captain. His decorations include the DFC...2nd Lieutenant Henry A.
