Description

Herbert Ihlefeld returned to Germany from the Spanish Civil War a highly decorated young pilot with 9 aerial victories. By the end of World War II , this talented fighter ace had achieved 140 air victories and survived being shot down 8 times during more than 1,000 combat missions. He flew in the battles of Poland , France and Britain before moving to the Balkans to command I./LG2. In 1942, Ihlefeld became Kommodore of the famed JG52 , but serious injury took him out of the front line until 1943 , when he joined JG25 as Kommodore , leading the group's ME 109's in defense of the Reich. In 1945 he took command of JG1 , the group equipped with the revolutionairy Heinkel 162 jet , the " people's fighter "...Nicolas Trudgian's painting shows Herber Ihlefeld's personal He-162 aircraft " White 23 " with others on patrol from JG1...This aircraft was later captured intact and is now in the collection of the National Air and Space Museum...This is beautifully mounted with 3 insets in the mount across the bottom , Nicolas Trudgian's signature , a printed remarque of Herbert Ihlefeld and Herbert Ihlefeld's original signature...This is quite a rare special and sought after edition...priced @ £495.00...To complement the purchase of your fine art print, we are now able to offer a professional Picture Framing service.
