Battle of Britain Hurricane Ace Tom Neil and fellow pilots of 249 Squadron intercept a Stuka formation over a convoy in the Thames Estuary on 7 November 1940. Mark asked Tom Neil to suggest his most memorable day for the subject of this print and this was the result. On this day he overturned his Hurricane in the morning after hitting a hidden bomb crater on take off, claimed a Stuka and 2 Me109s at lunchtime and then was forced to bale out in the late afternoon after having his tail chopped off by the Station Commander. Such was the life of a Battle of Britain pilot !
