This book is a day-by-day account of a German fighter squadron , one of only two Luftwaffe units to spend the entire war on the Western front. It covers the Battle of France , the Battle of Britain , the Dieppe raid , and more. JG 26 was known as " The Abbeville Boys " and were seen by the Allies as an elite squadron Unit who flew Messerschmitt Bf 109's and Focke-Wulf Fw 190's... They were also known as the " Abbeville Kids ", Jagdgeschwader 26 (JG 26) were considered one of the best German fighter wings of World War II , spending the entire war battling the British , the Canadians , and the Americans in the West. In the spring of 1940 , it formed a critical component of the blitzkrieg that overtook France and , later that year , cemented its reputation as a fearsome unit during the Battle of Britain. Over the following two years , JG 26 , with no more than 124 fighters , completely dominated the airspace above northern France and Western Belgium...This is Volume 1 by Donald Caldwell printed by Grub Street in 1996...We at Legends Aviation Gallery with our book partners Tony Cannon of ' The Book Stall ' have managed to obtain a very limited number of signed bookplates signed by two highly decorated Luftwaffe Aces of JG 26 , Heinz Lange and Hugo Dahmer both holders of the Knights Cross...Heinz Lange has signed Vol 1 and Hugo Dahmer Vol 2...Volume one tells of its rise and fall and mirrors the history of the German Air Force.
