This is a very very rare print sold out over 40 years ago and is well sought after on the secondary market...The print was produced over 40 years ago and was signed in those days in ink and the signatures are prone to fading very badly...This particular print has just been purchased recently by ourselves from the Great General Adolf Galland's widow Heidi Galland , it is not numbered and was a gift from Robert Taylor to the late General for signing the edition of this print , It is part of a batch of prints that we have just purchased from the late Generals widow Heidi Galland...The signatures are very strong and bold and have not faded at all and the image is perfect , it has been stored flat and out of the light with many other prints given to the General many years ago...It also comes with a companion print which is equally as rare called Battle of Britain Squadron Crests , Issued by the Military Gallery in 1990 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Very rare - we have not seen one before...It was also given to the late General and is included with the Duel of Eagles print...Duel of Eagles...Douglas Bader and Adolf Galland come face to face in a gripping duel over northern France... The title alone sums up this wonderful image, the symbolic encounter between two great opposing Aces who, after the war, were to become lifelong friends. Those two mighty ‘Eagles’ and wartime adversaries were none other than Adolf Galland and Douglas Bader, who later described ‘Duel of Eagles’ as his favourite Spitfire painting...Praise indeed ! As far as we are aware this is the only print edition ever signed by both these legendary Aces, and this outstanding piece has become even rarer over the years because the signatures are in ink rather than pencil. This means that unless a copy is framed with UV filter glass or has been kept in the dark for the last 30 years! it will fade over time and be lost forever. Very seldom do we get the opportunity these days to acquire an example with strong and bold signatures and a perfect image... Released in 1980 this was one of the earliest collaborations between RAF and Luftwaffe Aces since becoming one of the most popular and sought after prints in the industry, and both of these legendary pilots personally signed this memorable landmark edition together, the two great Aces united for posterity..
