Douglas Bader and Adolf Galland come face to face in a gripping duel over northern France. The title alone sums up this wonderful image, the symbolic encounter between two great opposing Aces who, after the war, were to become lifelong friends. Those two mighty ‘Eagles’ and wartime adversaries were none other than Adolf Galland and Douglas Bader, who later described ‘Duel of Eagles’ as his favourite Spitfire painting. Praise indeed ! As far as we are aware this is the only print edition ever signed by both these legendary Aces, and this outstanding piece has become even rarer over the years because the signatures are in ink rather than pencil. This means that unless a copy is framed with UV filter glass or has been kept in the dark for the last 30 years ! it will fade over time and be lost forever...Very seldom do we get the opportunity these days to acquire an example with an immaculate pristine image.
