Description

A stunning original pencil drawing by one of the Worlds Greatest Aviation Artists : Nicolas Trudgian...Depicting the Luftwaffe's Top Scoring Fighter Ace of the Battle of Britain ' Helmut Wick ' Knights Cross and Oakleaves Holder...Hauptmann Helmut Paul Emil Wick of JG2 together with Unteroffizer Gunther Seeger hunt for RAF Fighters along the Kent coast during the Height of the Battle of Britain...Born in Mannheim, Wick joined the Luftwaffe in 1936 and was trained as a fighter pilot. He was assigned to Jagdgeschwader 2 "Richthofen" (JG 2 , 2nd Fighter Wing), and saw combat in the Battles of France and Britain. Promoted to Major in October 1940, he was given the position of Geschwaderkommodore (wing commander) of JG 2 , the youngest in the Luftwaffe to hold this rank and position. He was shot down in the vicinity of the Isle of Wight on 28 November 1940. It is very likely that Wick was shot down by the British ace John Dundas, who was himself shot down by Wick's wingman. Helmut Wick was posted as missing in action, presumed dead. By then he had been credited with the destruction of 56 enemy aircraft in aerial combat, making him the leading German fighter pilot at the time. Flying the Messerschmitt Bf 109, he claimed all of his victories against the Western Allies....A lot of controversy surrounds the demise of Helmut Wick , it is believed that he parachuted into the Channel and drowned , but first hand accounts from some of the Battle of Britain Luftwaffe Aces we have interviewed at Legends have informed us that he did not bale out and that his aircraft plummeted into the sea with him still in the cockpit , he has been missing ever since...He ended the Battle of Britain as the Luftwaffe's most succesful pilot and the highest scorer with a confirmed total of 56 victories...This beautiful drawing has been signed by the artist Nicolas Trudgian and Eight Luftwaffe Battle of Britain Knights Cross Holder Fighter Aces : Erich Rudorffer KC ,Oakleaves ans Swords , Hans-Ekkhard Bob KC , Gunter Seeger KC , Maximilian Mayerl KC , Hugo Dahmer KC , Gunther Rall KC , Oakleaves and Swords , Otto Schutlz KC , Edmond Rossmann KC...priced @ Sold...To complement the purchase of your fine art print, we are now able to offer a professional Picture Framing service.
