Description

This delightful print by Nicolas Trudgian depicts a First World War Machine Gun crew equipped with the MG 08...Invented by English-American Hiram Stevens Maxim in 1883 , the ' Maxim' was the first recoil-operated machine gun...The new development made it more efficient and , with its water-cooling , capable of firing for extended periods without overheating...It was also far less likely to jam than previous rapid-firing guns ; a tendency that had slowed the acceptance of machine guns by soldiers in combat...Despite its advances , the Maxim was a cumbersome gun , requiring a team of between four and six men to perform the reload , spot targets , prepare ammunition and tend to the cooling...Nevertheless , the superiority of the type led to it , and close copies of it , being adopted by many armies around the world...A version that became widely used by the German Army , the Maschinengewehr MG 08 , is seen here on the Western Front in 1915...priced @ £25.00...To complement the purchase of your fine art print, we are now able to offer a professional Picture Framing service.
